Q. Are you married?
A. No. That is, not to each other.
Q. What's a spiral mouth?
A. Spiralmouth is an all vocal performing group that doesn't really perform. Lo, many years ago Gabe replied to an ad posting and showed up on Becky's stoop, beatboxing his little heart away. Spiralmouth went on to win numerous awards for its groundbreaking/eponymous/only commercially released recording, including the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards' Artist of the Year in 2006 for providing the soundtrack to the Crash [Bandicoot] Twinsanity. We also did all the vocal work and lots of new music for Crash Tag Team Racing.
Q. K-N-E-U-B-U-H-L. Isn't that a bit of a mouthful?
A. Not really, not when you say it aloud.
Q. Isn't Gabriel Mann an actor?
A. Yes. But that's not this Gabriel Mann.
Q. What's up with Arrested Development?
A. Seriously. Well, it got canned. But not before Gabe got to write and sing some cool songs for it. Go get 'em on the DVDs.
Q. You really write music together? How?
A. We didn't really know it was going to work out this way, it just kinda did. We were asked to write some music for Crash Twinsanity and have Spiralmouth sing it – that was the first thing we wrote together, and it just came very naturally to both be sitting in the studio singing and playing lines to each other, one of us beginning the thought, the other putting an ending on it. When one of us has to go pee, the other one's in there making it happen, or playing nerdy practical jokes. Like changing the tempo drastically. That's nerdy. Musicians are dorks.
Q. Why don't you guys have a Myspace.com page?
A. Gabe does, it's myspace.com/gabrielmann. If you go to Gabe's page,
it's got all sorts of fascinating information about his other life as a singer/songwriter. Maybe eventually Becky will catch a clue and get one too.
Q. What about the studio?
A. We work at Asylum Recording Studios, a commercial studio where we store all our cool vintage instruments, rad computers and lots of wires. It's kind of a one-stop shop, we write, record, and mix almost all of our music there, under the ever-watchful gaze of the Culver City Meat Packing plant. You can't beat their meat.
Q. Do you play games?
A. Becky would like to say she plays G.R.A.W., but secretly she's all Zuma. Gabe plays Asteroids on his Mac's Dashboard, and there's a Super Sprint (old school arcade driving game) in the studio that gets some love now and again.
Q. Where can i buy that "Foolish Dream" song that you had J-Pop singer Yoko Ishida come in and sing for Red Ninja?
A. Here.
